Biography




Marci is an acclaimed Costume Designer whose work on Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman contributed to the film’s Academy Award success and earned her a nomination from the Costume Designers Guild amongst other nominations.

Her upcoming designs will be featured in the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody), a sweeping look at the artist’s life. She also lent her creative vision to The Greatest, the first-ever authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali for Amazon Prime Video — produced by Outlier Society, Ben Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment (a Universal Music Group partner), and Grace: A Storytelling Company, with Watkins serving as showrunner.

Recognized as a dynamic and influential creative voice, Marci Rodgers has built a distinguished career at the intersection of design, culture, and strategy. Her blend of artistic intuition, academic training, and business expertise has positioned her as a sought-after collaborator across film and television.

A graduate of Howard University, Marci earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, grounding her in brand development and consumer insight. She later completed a Corporate MBA, sharpening the leadership and analytical skills that continue to guide her work in a rapidly evolving creative industry.

She then added an international dimension to her craft through advanced studies in Fashion Design and Marketing at Central Saint Martins in London—one of the most respected design institutions in the world.

Marci further pursued her artistic path by earning a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Born and raised just outside Chicago, Marci’s passion for visual storytelling began early and remains at the heart of her creative process. Her costume work moves beyond clothing; it captures personality, history, and emotion, enriching each character’s presence on screen. She has designed for an array of films under directors such as Spike Lee and Steven Soderbergh, bringing depth and cultural nuance to projects that span genres and time periods.

Her designs are celebrated for their authenticity and narrative clarity. Marci has a gift for interpreting a director’s vision while revealing layers of character through wardrobe, creating costumes that become integral to the storytelling experience.

Alongside her on-set work, she is an active educator and mentor. Through guest lectures, workshops, and professional coaching, she helps guide emerging designers as they navigate both the creative and business sides of the industry.
